A wealth of support and encouragement

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: Fast Track Apprenticeship Programme, Fast Track Apprenticeships, Life on the Fast Track

I initially applied to the Fast Track Apprenticeship Scheme alongside applying to university. In comparison to other apprenticeship schemes, what stood out was that I could study towards a Level 4 HNC and NVQ in Business and also earn a good salary. After reading other people’s experiences, I decided to choose my place on this apprenticeship over a place at university. It was the best decision I have made for my career.

My role is as a Project Support Officer in a national team that manages change within the Crown Prosecution Service. This involves providing secretariat, maintaining SharePoint sites and creating project documents and trackers. I am involved in a wide variety of projects, with topics ranging from Immigration Enforcement to job role standards. I was even able to provide secretariat support at the Summit on Human Trafficking that took place earlier in the year, with the Director of Public Prosecutions for England and Wales in attendance.

Since joining my team I have received a wealth of support and encouragement, and my manager has been excellent in assisting my development. For example, I will be going on a foundation and practitioner course in Portfolio, Programme & Project Offices (P3O®) which will enable me to operate a more professional portfolio for work the team does.

One of the main benefits to this apprenticeship is that you are given responsibility from the outset and the work is important. I have been made aware of many opportunities that are available to me as a Civil Servant, of which I would have never considered had I not applied for this scheme!
